Large-scale watercolour of roadside mud in full sun featuring a somewhat
abstract This is a transitional work that links my interests in representation and abstraction. Initially entitled, Simply Mud, the more generic title Earth seems more in tune with my subsequent journey which has been in the direction of finding connections between and among the diversity of art forms and means, 'an ecology of art', and ultimately from this to a synthesis of new visual linguistic theories. Here, the window of the work is adjusted in relation to the subject so as to finely position it between two complementary forces in art: representation and abstraction. W. A.
